2001 Chrysler Voyager Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Prevent Air Entrapment and Coolant Issues in Your Heater Core on 2001 Chrysler Voyager?
A: Once the heater core is near the top of the engine, the warm coolant can be left under the fill cap which can create a less-than-ideal engine temperature while making the rear heater hard to use. To stop problems, add the correct coolant mix into the rear heater core before reconnecting the hoses when servicing. Make sure the heater core is fitted first in the rear heater-A/C unit housing which needs to be installed in your car, paying close attention to keep the carpeting from being spilled on. Take an appropriate funnel and place its small end into the upper hose fitting on the heater core. Pour the engine coolant mixture slowly until the solution comes out of the lower hose fitting. Clean the spills, replace the heater hoses and fill up the engine's cooling system. If there is no fluid in the rear heater core, the cooling system should be refilled, the engine started until the thermostat opens, then turned off to cool, the fluid checked and topped off and this procedure repeated again at least twice. With your engine running and warm, point the front heater to OFF, rear heater to full Heat and rear blower motor to the max. Take the temperature at the base of the right C-pillar where the rear heater vent is located and it should range between 57 °C to 63 °C (135 °F and 145 °F) or else the rear heater core might not be full. If the performance check fails, you may find air in the rear heater core or blocks in the plumbing.
