2001 Dodge Caravan Brake Drum Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Drum on 2001 Dodge Caravan?
A: In order to service or repair the brake drum, lift the vehicle and take off the tire and wheel first. After that, remove the brass stop plate and the adjusting hole cover plug. Through the brake adjusting hole, insert a thin screwdriver into the lever, holding it away from the wheel's notches as you turn the adjustment screw. Add another screwdriver into the hole, locate the notches in the brake adjusting screw star wheel and pressing the tool down will release the brake adjustment. After that, disconnect the brake drum from the rear hub or bearing assembly. To install, set the brake shoes aside so they don't block the hub while you install the rear brake drums. Update the drum brake shoes in line with the proper procedure. Mount the wheel and tire unit, then tighten all the stud nuts in the recommended order, applying half of the required torque and repeat the order until you've tightened them to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). When you are done, lower the vehicle.
