2001 Dodge Dakota Exhaust Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How Do Exhaust Valve and Intake Valve Seat Refacing and Inspection Procedures Differ on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: These particular valves are built with a face angle ranging from 43-1/4° to 43-3/4° and a seat angle of 44-1/4° to 44-3/4°. After refacing, examine the leftover margin; valves under 1.190 mm (0.047 inch) are unsuitable. The process requires great care to make sure the valves are never un-shrouded during refacing. Always use the right size valve guide pilot when reseating stones to make sure the new surface is flat and complete. Test the valve seat with a dial indicator to be sure the runout is below 0.051 mm (0.002 inch). If you want to see if the seal is working, coat the valve seat with Prussian blue and slowly spin the valve in its seat to check. If the blue transfer happens in the middle of the valve surface, the contact is fine. Should the transfer reach the top edge, place a 15° stone under the valve seat; should it reach the bottom edge, place a 60° stone. Intake seats should measure from 1.016 - 1.524 mm to 0.040 - 0.060 inch and exhaust seats should measure from 1.524 - 2.032 mm to 0.060 - 0.080 inch.
