2001 Dodge Dakota Rocker Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Rocker Arm Assembly on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: Remove the engine cylinder head cover first and then inspect for misaligning rocker arm bridges near the valve tips. After that, take out one capscrew at each bridge and pivot assembly in turn, from one end to the other, to avoid harming the bridges. After bridges, pivots and pairs of rocker arms are taken out, replace them on a bench, still in the same order and then do the same for the push rods. Clean all the parts with a solvent and use compressed air to clean out the oil lines in the rocker arms and push rods. Make sure to coat the ball end of every push rod in Mopar Engine Oil Supplement or something comparable, reinstall them in place and ensure their lower end is even with the tappet plunger cap seat. For the pivot to slide smoothly, use Mopar Engine Oil Supplement on that area and then place the rocker arms, pivots and bridges above the cylinders in their previous positions. Loose fitting all the capscrews, but at every bridge, rotate them exactly one turn and tighten them alternating keeps them safe from damage and brings the torque to 28 Nm (21 ft. lb.) when done. Afterwards, reinstall the top cover of the cylinder head.
