2001 Dodge Dakota Oil Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Handle Oil Filter Removal and Installation on an Engine on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: High-tech disposable oil filters, along with a full flow design, are standard on all engines. You should use a Mopar or similar type of filter. Use a drain pan just under the oil filter, then twist it with the right oil filter wrench. Turn the oil filter counterclockwise until it is loose on the cylinder block filter boss. If the filter comes away from the adapter nipple, place the gasket end in an up position to catch the oil and then take the filter out. Swab the part of the engine cover where the gasket will go with a dry cloth to free it of oil and dirt. Put a small amount of engine oil or chassis grease on the oil filter gasket and then fit the filter onto the adapter nipple by hand. After fitting the gasket onto the seal, tighten the filter by hand just one time without forcing it too much. Add the oil last.
