2001 Dodge Dakota Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How Should You Properly Service and Repair a Rear Seat Belt and Retractor on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: After every seat belt service, examine the belt, buckle, hardware and retractor for problems or damage. When a belt is cut, frayed or torn, take it off; straighten twisted belts and tighten any loose fasteners. Replace any belt that has a buckle or retractor that is not working and any belt where either the latch plate or anchor plate is damaged or bent. Never try to fix any seat belt part; always use the right, unused and new replacement parts listed in the Mopar Parts Catalog. To get rid of the rear shoulder belt and retractor, open the back shoulder belt turning loop cover, unsnap it and fasten the screw securing the turning loop to the quarter inner panel. Then, take out the trim from the quarter inner panel, unscrew the lower seat belt anchor plate from the quarter inner panel and remove the plate itself. Then, take out the screw from the quarter inner panel and remove the rear shoulder belt and retractor. The retractor should be put near the quarter inner panel, with the screw secured to the panel at 40 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). After that, place the lower seat belt anchor plate onto the quarter inner panel, install the screw and tighten it to 40 Nm (29 ft. lbs.) and mount the trim back onto the panel. After that, place the shoulder belt turning loop onto the quarter inner panel, add the screw, tighten it to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) and then snap the trim cover over the anchor plate to hide the screw.
