2001 Dodge Durango Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Cigarette Lighter Power Outlet on 2001 Dodge Durango?
A: You need to disconnect the negative cable on the battery before working on the auxiliary cigarette lighter. Open the liftgate, move the left rear cup holder away from the D-pillar trim and lift up the rear cigarette lighter to see what's behind it. Find out where the rectangular retaining bosses, attached to the base, lie against the D-pillar trim by examining the cigarette lighter receptacle base. Take your external snap ring pliers and adjust them so their tips are inside the retaining bosses of the mount. Squeezing the pliers should automatically pull the bosses from inside the base and gently lifting the base out of place. You can use your hand from behind the cigarette lighter to give some extra push and help take out the base. Following removal, take out the cigarette lighter mount from the trim on the D-pillar. Placing the lighter mount, line up the grooves inside with the splines on the outside of your device's base. Keep pressing on the receptacle base until all of the retaining bosses have fully angled into place. Place the protective cap inside the wall socket, attach the cup holder to the trim panel and plug the negative battery cable back in.
