2002 Dodge Durango Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Cigarette Lighter Power Outlet on 2002 Dodge Durango?
A: Before working on the auxiliary cigarette lighter, cut off the negative battery connection. With the liftgate open, take the left rear cup holder assembly out of the trim to get access to the rear cigarette lighter. Look at the base of the receptacle and figure out how the metal bosses hold it in place on the D-pillar trim. Grab the retaining bosses of the mount with the tips of your external snap ring pliers, then squeeze the pliers to release the bosses and rock them to gently remove the receptacle base. You may find it easier to gently pull from behind the cigarette lighter to take off the base. After taking out the panel, remove the cigarette lighter mount that's currently attached to the D-pillar trim. To install the mount, carefully connect the outside splines on the cigarette lighter or receptacle base to the matching grooves on the insides of the mount you placed into the D-pillar trim. Push hard around the base of the receptacle until you can feel the retaining bosses touch the hollow in the shaft. Put the protective cap into the cigarette lighter receptacle base, stick the cup holder back into the D-pillar trim panel and lastly attach the battery negative cable again.
