2001 Dodge Durango Coil Springs Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service Coil Springs on 2001 Dodge Durango?
A: The first step for servicing a coil spring is to lift the vehicle and remove the wheel and tire assembly. Unhook the stabilizer bar link from the lower arm of the suspension and take out the shock absorber. Compress the coil spring by placing DD-1278 through the lower arm, coil and shock mounting hole. Afterwards, tighten the lower nut of the tool. After that, take out the lower ball joint nut and use Remover C-4150A to loosen the ball joint from the knuckle. Turn the nut on the spring compressor lower end counterclockwise so it glides off the stud with less spring tension and then withdraw the tool before pulling down the lower suspension arm to get out the spring. After applying the tape, install the isolator pad on the top of the spring and drop the spring into its pocket in the lower suspension arm to confirm good alignment, then tighten the bolt. Place Spring Compressor DD-1278 through the bottom arm socket and upper shock-mounting hole, locking it in place with the tool nut that secures the spring. Lift the lower ball joint into the knuckle, tighten the nut with 127 Nm (94 ft. lbs.) force and place a cotter pin in it. Once you have removed the spring compressor, put the stabilizer bar link on the lower suspension arm, tighten it at 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) and lock it. Raise the vehicle and then: Add the shock absorber first, then the wheel and tire and finally remove the support to lower the vehicle.
