- Q: How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on 2002 Dodge Durango?A: First, lift one end of the vehicle and support it and after that, take away the wheel and tire from the coil spring. Take off the stabilizer bar bolt linking the suspension arm and remove the shock absorber. Place the Spring Compressor DD-1278 through the lower arm, coil spring and upper mounting hole and use the lower nut on the tool to crush the coil spring. Then take out the lower ball joint nut, separate the ball joint from the knuckle and use Remover C-4150A to help. Remove the spring compressor's clamp on the top by turning the lower nut, then pull away the compressor and lower the suspension arm toward the hub to get out the spring. Use tape to put the isolator pad on top of your coil spring and make sure it is firmly seated in the lower arm pocket. Slide in the DD-1278 Spring Compressor Template through the hole in the lower suspension arm and in the coil spring's shock mounting hole. Secure the spring using the Spring Compressor Tool. Put the lower ball joint into the knuckle, then tighten the nut to 127 Nm (94 ft. lbs.) and secure it with a cotter pin. Once the spring compressor is removed, place the stabilizer bar link to the lower suspension arm and fasten the nut until the to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Put in the shock absorber, place the wheel and tire assembly on top and finally take out the support to let the vehicle down.
