2001 Dodge Durango Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Wheel Bearing on the Rear Axle 8 1/4 on 2001 Dodge Durango?
A: Raid and level the vehicle first and then remove the rear axle shaft for service and repairs. With your pry bar, carefully take out the seal at the axle tube's end. You can remove the seal and bearing in one go using a bearing removal tool. Following this, take out the axle shaft bearing with Bearing Removal Tool Set 6310 and Adapter Foot 6310-9. Following installation preparation, wipe the inside of the axle tube bore and remove past sealer or burrs. Secure the axle shaft bearing, with Handle C-4171 and Installer C-4198 so that it is straight and contacts the installer. Place new axle seals with the Installer C-4076-B and handle C-4735-1, pressing the tool against the axle tube to reach the correct spot. Cover the part of the seal that the axle will go into with axle lubricant for security. Lastly, fit the axle shaft, look at and fill the gear lubricant, take off the support and set the vehicle down.
