2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Oil Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Remove and Install an Oil Filter on an Engine on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: All engines are supplied with a high-quality full flow, disposable type oil filter and using either a Mopar or similar filter is advised. Have a drain pan ready beneath the filter and then adjust an oil filter wrench so you can turn the filter counterclockwise. Twist the filter downwards in the opposite direction to take it off the oil filter boss on the cylinder block. If the filter and adapter nipple come apart, lift up the gasket end to prevent too much oil from spilling and then remove the filter. Use a wiping cloth to remove any oil and gunk from the filter's sealing area before you change the filter. Next, gently add a little engine oil or chassis grease to the gasket and screw the oil filter onto the adapter nipple. As soon as the gasket meets the surface, turn the filter one full hand turn (squeeze-like motion), not too tight. After your spices, pour in the oil as well.
