2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: What steps should be taken to inspect, replace, and install seat belts and their components on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: After and while having your seat belts checked, always inspect seat belts, buckles, all hardware and the retractors to see if they are properly fitted, working and without holes or damage. If a belt is torn or frayed, don't drive, as you should replace it; straighten out zippered fasteners that are twisted and ensure every fastener is tight. Exchange any belt with an unworkable or bent buckle or retractor, also including any belt that has a badly damaged or bent latch plate or anchor plate. Always use and replace faulty seat belt parts from the parts catalog because repairing a seat belt component is not allowed by FCA. First, pull down the cover hiddin behind the trim on the roof rail, turn the screw counterclockwise and pull the shoulder belt loop plate out. After that, withdraw the screw holding the fixed rear seat belt anchor plate and retractor unit to the rear floor panel and remove the plate and retractor unit. For installation, put the rear seat shoulder belt lower anchor plate and retractor unit onto the rear floor section and connect the bracket with a screw to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.). First, fit the anchor plate into the inner roof rail and tighten the screw to 40 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). After that, put in place the cover of the trim panel.
