2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Door Hinge Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Door Hinge Without Taking Off the Door on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: If only one hinge is being replaced at a time and the epoxy coated washers are kept, the door does not need to be removed for repair. Open the front door and place a grease pencil mark where the upper hinge on the door meets the b-pillar. Take out the most inboard nut and bolt on the hinge, then pull the three bolts connecting the hinge to the b-pillar to free it up. For this part, make a mark on the door and b-pillar where the hinge will go, remove the lower b-pillar trim to access through and unbolt the hinge from the door. After that, take out the two bolts at the b-pillar, then reach into the car to unbolt and remove the hinge from the b-pillar. For placing the upper hinge in the car, add all the washers back in place and reinstall the nut and bolt, tightening it to 28 N.m (21 ft.lbs), then attach and tighten the three upper hinge to b-pillar bolts as before. Adjust the door setting as needed. After placing the lower hinge and the attached b-pillar bolts, tighten them using 28 N.m (21 ft.lbs). Afterward, return the door washers, install the nut and bolt and tighten the same way. If the door won't close correctly, adjust it and then put back the lower b-pillar trim.
