2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rack and Pinion Steering System on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: To work on the rack and pinion, first place the front wheels directly facing forward. Cap and disconnect the hoses from the rack and pinion, remove the coupler pinch bolt and slide the shaft from the rack. Gasoline Engine Manual: Before taking the pitman arm off the shaft using C-4150A, mark both the pitman shaft and pitman arm for correct installation afterward. Remove each retaining bolt and nut next to take out the rack and pinion. To install the rack and pinion, place it on the frame rail and use bolts to secure it, following the maker's procedure. Put the steering coupler on the gear shaft, add the pinch bolt and tighten it until it reaches a torque of 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.). Position the pitman arm and fit it in place and install the retaining nut and washer on the shaft, tighten the nut to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.). Attach the fluid hoses to the rack and pinion and make sure they are tightened to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). Once done, pour the fluid in.
