2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rack and Pinion Steering System on 2002 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before servicing or repairing the steering control, drive the front wheels straight ahead. Cut the rack and pinion's hoses, then take out the catalytic bolt and slide the gear shaft off the rack and pinion. Mark both the shaft and the arm before you use Puller C-4150A to take the pitman arm off the shaft. After that, take out the rack and pinion retaining bolts and nuts so you can remove the rack and pinion from the car. When installing, secure the rack and pinion to the frame rail and use the right bolts to attach it fully according to the instructions. Place the steering coupler on the gear shaft, add the pinch bolt and tighten it to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.) torque. Mount the pitman arm onto the fork, after which you should tighten the nut and washer on the shaft of the pitman arm to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.). The last step is to join the fluid hoses to the rack and pinion and tighten them forcefully to 23 ft. lbs.
