2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2001 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: You should unconnect the battery negative cable as the first step to repairing the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley. Take the accessory drive belt off the car, along with the cooling system fan. Then, loosen and remove the vibration damper bolt and its washer at the end of the crakshaft. Use Special Tool 8513 to connect the back of the crankshaft with the nose and use Special Tool 1026 to connect itself onto the vibration damper which you then pull off the crankshaft. It is important to clean away any dirt from the crankshaft nose and vibration damper bore before doing the installation to avoid serious harm. Set the vibration damper on the crankshaft and install it by using the installing tool from Puller Tool Set C-3688. Place the crankshaft bolt and washer into place and lock them in with 244Nm (180-ft. lbs.) torque. Put the accessory drive belt back in place, set the fan shroud and then install and tighten the retainer bolts to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs. of torque). After that, add the cooling fan and attach the battery negative cable once again.
