2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer on 2000 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: First, unplug the negative lead from the battery to service and repair the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley. Disconnect the car's cooling fan, then remove its accent piece called the cooling fan shroud and take off the accessory drive belt. Afterward, loosen the bolt and washer that secure the vibration damper at the crankshaft's end. Install Strong Tool 8513 at the crankshaft nose and next, use Special Tool 1026 Three Jaw Puller to remove the vibration damper from the crankshaft. Take care to remove all debris from the crankshaft nose and the vibration damper bore to avoid serious harm during installation. Set the vibration damper onto the crankshaft, then press it on using the installing tool in C-3688 from the Puller Tool Set. Attach the crankshaft bolt with a washer and tighten it to 244 Nm (180 ft. lbs.) torque. Set the accessory drive belt in place, fit the fan shroud and install the bolts after tightening the retainer bolts to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.). After that, put in the cooling fan and attach the negative end of the battery cable.
