2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Wheel Hub Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Wheel Hub on 2001 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Lift and support the vehicle and afterward, remove the wheel and the tire from the hub. Proceed to remove the bolts that fix the caliper adapters to the steering knuckle and carefully take the assembly; you don't want to let the brake hose help support it. Take off the rotor by removing the hub/bearing nut and the wheel studs, then put the hub/bearing aside because the nut is no longer reusable. If the vehicle has an all-wheel antilock system (ABS), look for damage to the teeth of the tone wheel on the hub/bearing during installation; if any teeth are missing or cracked, the full hub/bearing needs replacing. Slide the new hub/bearing on the spindle and put a new hub/bearing nut on, tightening it to either 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.) for LD 1500 vehicles or 380 Nm (280 ft. lbs.) for HD 2500/3500 vehicles. After that, set the rotor onto the hub/bearing wheel studs and put the caliper assembly on, tightening the adapter bolts to 176 Nm (130 ft. lbs.) if you use an LD 1500 or 285 Nm (210 ft. lbs.) if you are using an HD 2500/3500 model. Connect and tighten the wheels and the tires, lower the car fully and press the brakes a few times to firmly place the brake shoes, so you end up with a dependable pedal for driving.
