2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Control Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair a control arm on 2001 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: For services and repairs of the upper control arm, lift the car and place supports, then take off the wheel and tire assembly. Lift and support the lower arm near the edge of the car with a jack stand. After that, take out the nut and cotter pin on the upper ball joint and part MB-990635 to release the ball joint from the knuckle. Pull the bolts holding the pivot bar to the upper suspension arm and then remove the arm from beneath the vehicle. Put the upper arm on the bracket and fasten the two pivot bar bolts to 169 Nm (125 ft. lbs.). Install the ball joint in the knuckle, bolt it there with the nut tightened to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.) and then pin it back in place with the cotter. Release the jack from the suspension arm, add the wheel and tire back to the car, cast it aside and lower your vehicle. The last step is to square up the rubber bushings in the front suspension.
