2001 Dodge Stratus Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Power Steering Hose on 2001 Dodge Stratus?
A: First, siphon power steering fluid from the reservoir and then cover all ends of hoses, pump fittings and steering gear ports to stop them from becoming dirty while the repair is done. The Return Hose is made up of the Return Hose With Tube and the Return Hose To Reservoir components. To access the Return Hose With Tube, take off the front fascia, raise the vehicle if you need to and take off the attachment bolt and nut on the forward splash shield. Loosen the pressure hose of the power steering unit from its connection at the gear, then undo the return hose from its place and afterward remove the air shield beneath the left end of the reinforcement. After that, pull the clamp and return hose free from the right end of the return hose tube, along with the tube mounting clips and the tube from the routing clips on the left side of the body. Loop the steering gear end of the return hose tube outside of the frame rail and pull the whole assembly forward, moving it between the ABS ICU and the outline of the rail to remove it from the vehicle. For Return Hose To Reservoir, first suck fluid from the reservoir, then remove the screw holding the reservoir to the engine coolant recovery bottle, raise the reservoir off its guide and separate the hose clamp from the return hose. After removing the front fascia, if necessary, raise the vehicle, then unclamp the right end of the return hose and take the routing clip off the inside of the right frame rail. Adhere to the reverse order of the beginning steps to install the Return Hose With Tube. Pull the hose forward, set it in place in the routing clips and lock it. Join the return hose to the reservoir that's attached to the return hose tube and hold it in place with a clamp. Install the front fascia, lower the car and gradually tighten the left front wheel lug nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) as you crisscross them. Stuff the reservoir with fluid and bleed the system and make sure to look for leaking points. Take the Return Hose To Reservoir and lower it into the routing clip on the right frame rail and secure it to the return hose tube. Retail the front fascia, raise the vehicle up and clip the return hose to the reservoir fitting be sure that the hose clamp is properly set. Drop the reservoir over the chamber, add the screw and fill the container with coolant before releasing any trapped air.
