2001 Jeep Cherokee Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
A: Disconnect the negative cable from the battery as the first step before touching the harmonic balancer or crankshaft pulley. Unbolt the serpentine drive belt and fan shroud, lift them off and take out the bolt and washer holding the vibration damper. Apply Vibration Damper Removal Tool 7697 to free the damper from the crankshaft. Apply Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant to the crankshaft's keyway and then put in the key. Put the keyway on the vibration damper hub in line with the crankshaft key and tap the damper onto the shaft softly. Place the vibration damper retaining bolt and washer in their original position and tighten the bolt to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) torque. Afterward, place the serpentine drive belt and fan shroud back in place and finally plug the negative cable back into the battery.
