2001 Jeep Cherokee Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Address Issues with a Throttle Cable on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
A: Raise the car's accelerator pedal, then pinch the plastic cable retainer and remove the throttle cable core wire from the arm at the top of the pedal. After that, take out the core wire from the pedal arm connection. Press the knobs at the sides of the cable housing retainer on the inside of the dash to pull the cable housing up and inside the hood. Take out the cable from the cable guide on the cylinder head and by pushing at the throttle body, remove the ball end socket from the cable. Use the release tabs to compress the throttle bracket while the cable is squeezed through the hole. Once out, pull the cable entirely from the vehicle. To attach the cable, route it through the hole in the throttle bracket and let the tabs catch on the supports, then join the cable's ball to the other ball on the throttle body. Put the cable through the cable guide screw in the cover of the engine cylinder and pull the tether all the way through the dash panel opening until the tabs are in place. From inside the driver's compartment, slip the throttle cable core wire into the top of the accelerator pedal arm and keep pushing in on the cable retainer until it clicks into place. Before turning on the engine, move the accelerator pedal to see if anything binds.
