2001 Jeep Cherokee Vapor Canister Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Vapor Canister on 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
A: The EVAP canister on the left side of the vehicle, just before the rear axle, needs the vacuum hoses to be disconnected and their locations jotted down before you take it out. Take off three nuts to remove the EVAP canister and mounting bracket assembly from the body. Next, remove the two nuts joining the canister to the bracket. When placing the canister into the mounting bracket, make sure the two dowel pins in the canister are in line with the two bushings. Secure the canister with two nuts at 45 in. lbs. torque and when you return the assembly to the body, install and tighten three nuts to 32 ft. lbs. torque. Lastly, attach the vacuum hoses back to the EVAP canister.
