2001 Jeep Cherokee Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Wheel Bearing on 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
A: To do the job, start by lifting and supporting the car and then remove the axle shaft. Wiggle a small pry bar along the inside of the axle tube to push the axle shaft seal out. You can take off the seal and bearing at the same time, using the bearing removal tool. Following that, take out the axle shaft bearing with Bearing Removal Tool Set 6310 and Adapter Foot 6310-9. Before installation, wipe out the inside of the axle tube and get rid of any previous sealer or sharp burrs. Lay down C-4198 and C-4171 on the shaft and put the bearing in place so the tool touches the axle tube and the number faces you, the installer. Install your new axle seal using Installer C-4076-B and Handle C-4735-1, turning the tool to reach the axle tube's correct depth. Before setting the axle shaft in place, lubricate the edge of the seal with a protective lubricant. After that, attach the axle shaft, examine and top up the gears with fluid, then lift off the jack and lower the vehicle.
