How to Service the Rear Drive Shaft on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

You should first raise and support the vehicle on safety stands and afterward shift the transmission and transfer case to neutral if they are needed. Make a mark on each yoke across the axle pinion and propeller shaft to assist in installation. Lift out the universal joint clamps by removing their holding bolts and then take the slip yoke off the transmission or transfer case output shaft to get the propeller shaft out. To install, put the slip yoke over the transmission or transfer case output shaft and make the alignment marks of the propshaft and pinion yoke line up. Slot the universal joint into the pinion yoke, add the universal joint clamp and bolts and tighten the bolts to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.). In the end, drive the vehicle down to the ground.
