To obtain the front output angle on the C/V front propeller shaft, insert Inclinometer 7663 into the machined ring of the pinion flange, but put the inclinometer on the propeller shaft tube when measuring the propeller shaft angle. Shaft extension should be secured to the transfer case/transmission flange for the rear output angle. The first thing to do is lift and support the vehicle at the axles, ensuring everything levels out, so the wheels and shaft rotate freely. Once the joint rings are removed, the inclinometer base must be seated flatly on the arms. Rotate the shaft until the transmission/transfer case output yoke cap is resting on your workbench. Make your measurements by moving from front to back and always keeping to one side of the vehicle. Press the inclinometer down on the yoke bearing cap or pinion flange ring so that it is parallel to the shaft, centralize the bubble in the sight glass and put down the Output Yoke Angle (A). Lift the hub and rotate the propeller shaft again to 90 degrees, this time placing the inclinometer along the propeller shaft or collar, checked so the bubble is in the center and mark down the measurement as the propeller shaft angle (C). The transmission output angle is the difference between the larger and smaller figures: C-A. Next, rotate the propeller shaft another 90 degrees and place the inclinometer on the pinion yoke bearing cap to run alongside the shaft. Align the bubble in the sight glass and clock that measurement as the pinion shaft or input yoke angle (B). Take away the smaller result from the larger to determine the remaining input operating angle. For best results, it is important that the U-joint operating angles remain within 1 degree, the constant velocity joint system at less than 3 degrees, the propeller shaft at least 1/2 degree and only 1 1/2 degrees for the U-joint system.
