How to Replace the Rear Drive Shaft on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Lift the vehicle so that it is raised on stands and move both the transmission and the transfer case to their neutral positions as needed. Just under the axle pinion yoke, make a line to identify what side to place the control fairing for best installation. Lift up on the pinion yoke and take out the bolts supporting the universal joint clamps. This will release the propeller shaft so you can take it off. To install, slide the slip yoke onto the end of the transmission or transfer case shaft and ensure the marks on the propeller shaft lign up with those on the pinion yoke. Slide the universal joint onto the pinion yoke, bolt the clamp onto the yoke, add the clamp bolts and tighten the bolts to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.). The next step is to lower the vehicle.
