Q: How to Remove and Install an Intake Manifold on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Remove the intake manifold by first removing the negative cable from the battery and draining the cooling system. Now, take out the air inlet hose and resonator from the throttle body and air cleaner housing, after that take out the accessory drive belt. Support the old assembly by connecting mechanics wire to the upper crossmember of the radiator. Carry out the fuel pressure loss procedure and unplug the fuel supply tube from the fuel rail. Cut the lines at the connector linking the cable to both the speed control and transmission pressure on the throttle body and cable bracket, pulling only with your fingers away from the speed control cable. First, unplug the wiring for the throttle position sensor, idle air control motor, coolant temperature sensor inside the thermostat housing, manifold air temperature sensor at the intake manifold, fuel injectors and oxygen sensor. Separate the CCV, MAP, HVAC supply and CCV hoses from their connections at the intake manifold, as well as from the cylinder head cover. Yank out the vacuum harness and undo the vacuum brake booster hose at the intake manifold. Open the clamps at bolts 2 through 5 linking the intake manifold to the cylinder head, slightly loosen exhaust bolt No. 1, but do not remove it yet, plus bolts 6 and 7, then lift the intake manifold out, unmounting the gaskets and emptying coolant from the manifold at the same time. Remove any particles from the intake manifold to cylinder head area, check that nothing will block the ports and examine for any signs of cracks, pitting, warp or twist. For the installation, warp up the mating points again, fit the new manifold gasket lined with locating dowels, align the manifold and only tighten the bolts by hand. Clamp each fastener according to its torque. For fastener No. 1, apply 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.), for Nos. 2 through 5, use 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs. and for Nos. 6 and 7, use 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Don't attach the fuel line to the fuel rail until you've checked and replaced the O-rings if needed, then you can properly join the fuel rail inlet and fuel pipe. Make the vacuum connections from the molded vacuum hoses to the locations on the intake manifold and cylinder head cover and connect the electrical cables for the throttle position sensor, idle air control motor, coolant temperature sensor, manifold air temperature sensor, fuel injectors and oxygen sensor. Link the brake booster vacuum supply hose, CCV hose and MAP sensor vacuum hose to the throttle body. Set the power steering pump and bracket in place on the water pump and manifold, as well as the accessory drive belt, tightening the bolts as follows: the power steering pump bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) and the bracket bolts to water pump to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Mount the accessory belt, attach the accelerator cable to the bracket and throttle lever and if you're equipped with them, fasten the speed control and transmission line pressure cables to the same bracket and the throttle lever. Fill the cooling system, tie the air inlet hose and resonator to the throttle body and air cleaner, join the battery negative cable and start the engine to find any leaks.
