2001 Jeep Wrangler Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Reinstall a Radiator on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before taking out the radiator, remove the negative battery cable at the battery and remove the radiator's cap to confirm the system is not hot or pressurized. After that, take out the condenser lower seal from the lower core support and empty the cooling system into a clean container for later recycling. Unclamp the hoses from both sides and then pull out the radiator's coolant reserve/overflow tank hose. Slack the power steering fluid reservoir if it's attached to the fan shroud before removing the four mounting bolts. After that, position the fan shroud over the fan blades. Should the vehicle be fitted with an automatic transmission fluid cooler, unplug the lines after connecting the transmission fluid. Take the six radiator mounting bolts out and make sure the front axle vent hose is placed to the side before lifting the radiator out of the car, watching so you don't bend the fins. Notice how the seals on the top and bottom are placed so you can put them back properly. Flush the radiator or A/C condenser using only cold water and compressed air, when the engine is cold. Make sure the radiator cooling fins are intact, the plastic end tanks are free from any leaks and that the radiator neck has not been damaged. Set the radiator in place and use a torque wrench to tighten the six bolts to 8 Nm. After that, close your radiator draincock. Fit the fan shroud and the power steering reservoir tank back into their places, tightening all four fixing bolts to the same torque. When the setup allows it, pull the plugs and join the automatic transmission fluid cooler lines and constant tension clamps. Attach the radiator hoses and fit the hose clamps and then secure the condenser lower seal into place. Bring the negative battery cable back to its original place, add the said coolant to the cooling system and connect the coolant recovery bottle hose ahead of using the radiator cap. In addition, note the automatic transmission fluid level (if you have one), start up the car and look for any leaks.
