2002 Jeep Wrangler Radiator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Remove and Reinstall a Radiator on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before taking out the radiator, cut off the negative cable at the battery and remove the radiator cap to allow the system to cool down. After that, take out the condenser lower seal from the lower core support and pour the drained cooling fluid into a clean empty container to use again. Take out both the upper and lower hose clamps, along with the hoses and disconnect the hose to the radiator from the coolant reserve/overflow tank. Unscrew the four fan shroud bolts, trying not to spill any power steering fluid and set the shroud upside down around the fan while the blades are exposed. If you have an automatic transmission fluid cooler, disconnect and remove its lines and then unbolt all six radiator mounts and move the front axle vent hose to the side. Lift the radiator straight out of the car and pay attention to where the rubber seals are on both ends. Applying cold water and blowing with compressed air will help you clean the radiator fins. Look at the fins on the radiator to check for damage; also check the plastic tanks at the ends and the radiator neck for signs of deterioration. For setup, place the radiator in its place and twist the six mounting screws to 8 Nm (72 inch lbs.) torque, followed by closing the draincock. Place the fan shroud and power steering reservoir tank onto the engine and tighten the four bolts to 8 Nm (72 inch lbs.). Taking out any plugs, attach the automatic transmission fluid cooler lines and constant tension clamps to the transmission, if they come with the car. Install the radiator hoses and clamp them and then set the condenser lower seal in place. Attach the black battery cable again, fill the cooling system with suitable coolant, hook up the coolant recovery bottle hose and add the radiator cap. After that, set the automatic transmission fluid to your owner's manual level, start the car and inspect for any fluid leaks.
