2002 Chrysler Prowler Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Rear Brake Caliper on 2002 Chrysler Prowler?
A: To start caliper service, use a brake pedal holding tool to push the pedal about an inch and secure it, separating the master cylinder from the brakes. Raise your vehicle, slide a trim stick into the notch in the center cap and pry it gently to pop it off. After that, remove the wheels and tires, free the brake hose from the brake caliper with the banjo bolt and throw out the old sealing washers, installing new ones in their place. Start by removing the two bolts attaching the disc brake caliper to the caliper adapter. Next, unwind the free end of the caliper holder from the adapter, raise it and take it off the machined abutment. After changing brake shoes, withdraw the caliper piston all the way into the caliper bore and coat both contact points on the caliper adapter with Mopar Brake Grease. Put the caliper on the adapter carefully, so the guide pin bushings are not damaged, then tighten the guide pin bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Replace the banjo bolt on both sides, using new sealing washers and tighten it to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Carefully reattach the wheel and tire and first tighten the wheel mounting stud nuts in the right sequence to half the recommended degree of tightness before repeating to bring the bolts to 100 foot-pounds (135 Nm). Set the center cap into place, release the lowered vehicle, take off the holding tool under the brake pedal, pump the brake pedal and make sure there isn't any air in the brake caliper and tubes.
