2002 Chrysler Sebring Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace an Oxygen Sensor on 2002 Chrysler Sebring?
A: You will find oxygen sensors at the outlet of the catalytic converter and both exhaust manifolds host heated oxygen sensors inside the engine. Before you take out the engine, it must be cool, as hot exhaust components can cause an accident. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal on the battery and then lift the vehicle. For downstream sensors, release the wire connector from the oxygen sensor without going directly for the wire itself. When removing the oxygen sensor, use the Snap-On oxygen sensor wrench (number YA 8875). For the sensors toward the engine, detach the box from the air cleaner, get to the rear oxygen sensor in the back and pull out the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector using Special tool #8439. After removing the exhaust manifold clamp bolts, thread an 18 mm X 1.5 + 6E tap into the threads to clean them during installing. If you are reusing the original sensor, use an anti-seize compound like Loctite 771-64 or the same kind on the threads; sensors purchased new already have this applied. Attach the sensor to the vehicle with 28 N.m (20 ft. lbs.) torque, link the wire connector back, put the car back on the ground and attach the black battery cable. Proceed the same way with the upstream sensors by cleaning and coating them, using tool #8439 to complete installation, attaching the electrical connector, adding the air cleaner box and connecting the battery cable.
