2002 Dodge Dakota Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Cigarette Lighter Power Outlet on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: You need to first disconnect and separate the negative battery cable to work on the auxiliary cigarette lighter. Take out the lower bezel from the instrument panel. Draw the entire cigar lighter knob and element up to get it out of the pin in its receptacle or remove the protective cap from the open cigarette lighter base. Check the inside of the receptacle base to understand where the rectangular retaining bosses attach it to the lower bezel of the instrument panel. Use some external snap ring pliers to put the ends on the retaining bosses and gently squeeze while rocking them to free the base from the mount. Uninstall the cigar lighter or cigarette lighter mount located just below the instrument panel. First, place the mount into the lower bezel of the instrument panel, matching the outside splines on the connector base with the grooves within the mount. Push down until the retaining bosses are completely engaged. Push in the cigar lighter knob and element or the protective cap, then connect the lower bezel to the panel and attach the battery negative cable.
