2001 Dodge Dakota Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Cigarette Lighter Power Outlet on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, unhook and distance the battery negative cable to work with the cigarette lighter. Separate the lower bezel from the center part of the instrument panel. Pull the knob and lighter element out of the base in the cigarette lighter or unsnap the cap from the outlet in the cigarette lighter receptacle. Look inside the receptacle base to spot the rectangular retaining bosses which hold the receptacle base to the lower panel of the instrument panel. Insert the tips of the clamp into the bosses and squeeze hard to release the grip, twisting the ring forward or backward to get the receptacle base off the mount. Eliminate the cigarette lighter mount from the lower part of the instrument panel. Align the splines on the receptacle base with the grooves in the mount as you set the cigarette lighter mount back into the lower bezel inside the instrument panel. Yield steady pressure until the retaining bosses are completely inserted. After inserting the cigarette lighter knob and element or the cap into the receptacle base, attach the lower bezel piece to the instrument panel. At last, connect the battery negative cable back into the socket.
