2002 Dodge Dakota Engine Mount Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Engine Mount for Front Mounts on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: Take care of the front engine mount by first taking off the negative battery cable and elevating the hood to make room for the top radiator hose. Always be careful not to lift up the engine through the intake manifold. Attach the engine lifting fixture and put the car up on a hoist. With 2WD, open the insulator's bolt to replace it, raise the engine a bit to get the retaining bolts for the insulator assembly and remove the insulator. When using 4WD, take off the negative battery cable, hoist the vehicle and hook the engine support onto it. Take off the front axle, left mount insulator and starter wires and unbolt the insulator from the frame. Lift the engine slightly and remove the upper insulator to support bracket stud nut and the insulator to support through bolt before you remove the engine mount insulator. Only replace the engine support bracket by removing the bracket-to-transmission bolts and the bolts holding it to the engine block. If you are installing the insulator in a 2WD, raise the engine and place the assembly on the block, then tighten the bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Reduce the engine speed, slide the insulator assembly into the engine insulator bracket, fix the insulator to bracket thru-bolt and tighten the thru-bolt nut to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Take out the lifting fixture and link the negative cable to the battery. With the 4WD, set the engine support brackets and tighten both support bracket to block bolt(s) to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and support bracket to transmission bellhousing bolt(s) to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.). Tighten the insulator to the right engine support bracket nut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and to the left nut to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.). Lower the engine, fit the insulator through the bolt and nut, tighten the nut to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) and after that, mount the starter motor and bolts, securing them to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Connect the starter wires, take off the engine lifting fixture, set in the front axle assembly, lower the vehicle and at last attach the negative cable to the battery.
