2002 Dodge Dakota Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Power Steering Pump for 5.2L and 5.9L Engines on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: If your car is a 5.2L or 5.9L engine, start by removing the serpentine drive belt. Clamp the hole where fluid returns, take off all the hoses linked to the pump and close the fittings. It's important to remove both the battery ground cable and the bracket bolts before getting the pump assembly out. Unscrew the pump attaching screws once the pump pulley is taken out and remove the pump bracket bolts. To install, screw on the bracket to the pump and use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Once that's done, fit the pump pulley. Put the pump assembly on the engine block and bind it there with bolts that you tighten to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). After putting the ground wire back on the battery, tighten it to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) before you connect the hoses to the pump. Then, grasp the serpentine drive belt and pump the reservoir full of power steering fluid.
