2002 Dodge Durango Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Shock Absorber on 2002 Dodge Durango?
A: Start by taking out the upper nut, retainer and grommet from the shock absorber stud. After that, raise the vehicle and remove the bolts of the lower mount as you pull out the shock absorber via the lower suspension arm. After installing, if you keep the original upper shock nut, treat it with Mopar Lock 'N Seal or Loctite 242. Start by fitting the lower retainer and grommet on the shock stud, then cover the shock through the lower suspension arm and up through the upper hole with the collar or boot. After that, put in the lower mounting bolts and fasten them until you reach a torque of 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Once you've pulled out the support and lowered the car, put on the U-stamped upper grommet and retainer to the shock absorber stud. After that, either replace the nut or use Mopar Lock 'N Seal or Loctite 242 on the current one and tighten it to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.).
