2002 Dodge Neon Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Crankshaft Seal on 2002 Dodge Neon?
A: Service and repair work on the front crankshaft seal starts with removing the accessory drive belts, then taking out the crankshaft vibration damper and timing belt. Use Special Tool 6793 to get rid of the crankshaft sprocket and then extract the crankshaft sprocket key. Make sure not to damage the shaft seal surfaces or seal bore while you move the motor. Special Tool 6771 can be used to remove the front crankshaft oil seal without harming the seal's contact area on the crankshaft. For assembly, slide the seal in so its spring goes inside the engine and tighten it onto the cover with Special Tool 6780-1. After installing the crankshaft sprocket key, place Special Tool 6792 into the open bore of the crankshaft and fit the crankshaft sprocket to it, with the "front" side visible on the outside. Proper depth for installation of the crankshaft sprocket with Special Tool 6792 is necessary to prevent the timing belt from tracking incorrectly. Next, put back the timing belt, crankshaft vibration damper and accessory drive belts.
