2003 Dodge Neon Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2003 Dodge Neon?
A: To work on the crankshaft main bearing seal, begin by taking out the transaxle and the flex plate. Slide the flat end of a 3/16 screwdriver under the seal and between its edge and the crankshaft case to lift it out, avoiding the seal's surface but touching the chamfered area. Should you notice anything sharp or rough on the edge of the crankshaft, use a file or 400 grit sandpaper to polish it out so the seal does not tear. It is not necessary to lubricate when installing the seal. Set Special Tool 6926-1, a magnetic pilot, on the crankshaft and put the seal over it, so the label THIS SIDE OUT can be read and the seal's lip faces the crankcase. Press the seal into the block with Special Tool 6926-2 and keep handling C-4171 until the tip of the tool touches the bottom of the block. Now, put back the flex plate and the transaxle.
