2001 Dodge Neon Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: You should remove the transaxle and the flex plate before handling the crankshaft main bearing seal. To remove the crankshaft seal, slide the 3/16 flat blade screwdriver between the dust lip and the metal case, making sure only the chamfer on the crankshaft is touched. Clean off any burrs or scratches on the crankshaft edge using 400 grit sandpaper to make sure the seal is not damaged during installation. You don't have to apply any lubricant while installing the new seal. Hold Special Tool 6926-1 at the crankshaft and set the seal on top, pointing the words THIS SIDE OUT toward the crankcase so that the seal's lip is against the paper gasket. While working, take care not to insert the seal deeper into the block than flush. Place Special Tool 6926-2 on top of C-4171 and push until the tool comes to rest against the edge of the block. Following this, restore the flex plate and the transaxle.
