2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Brake Pad Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair Brake Pads on 2002 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: First, make sure your vehicle is raised and steady and then take out the wheel and tire pairs to service or repair the brakes. Use your hand to squeeze the caliper and then tilt it away from the caliper adapter at the top, ensuring the brake hose doesn't hold up the John Deere caliper assembly. Hang the caliper and then take off both the inboard and outboard brake shoes from its adapters. In the next step, take out the anti-rattle springs from the caliper adapter, knowing they are not interchangeable. To set the pistons in the bore, hold them in place with a C-clamp that has a brake shoe between them and the caliper. Clear out the caliper mounting adapter and anti-rattle springs and then put a film of Mopar brake grease on the springs before mounting. Simply put the brake shoes inside the adapter, pass the top of the caliper through the holes and allow the bottom to rest on the adapter. Install the caliper, put back the wheel and tire assemblies and then lower the vehicle. After that, brake several times to allow the caliper pistons and brakes shoes to seat properly and check that the mast cylinder fluid is at the proper level.
