2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Driveshaft Center Support Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Driveshaft Center Support Bearing on 2002 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Start the service and repair of the driveshaft center support bearing by first taking out the rear propeller shaft and marking the two support shafts for installation. Following this, remove the slip joint boot clamp to take the two shafts apart. Hold the slinger in place with a bit of wire, then tap it with a hammer and punch to clear space for the Bearing Splitter Tool 1130. Do not scratch or break the shaft spline when taking off the driveshaft center support bearing and then put the shaft in a press to remove the bearing the rest of the way. During installation, be aware that the driveshaft center support bearings come in two types and can't be swapped, so use the same type as before. Fit the new slinger onto the shaft using the right installer tool and then use the special Bearing Installer Tool 6052 to set the new driveshaft center support bearing onto the shaft, driving it on using a hammer as necessary. First, clean the shaft splines, then use multipurpose grease to coat them, then align the master splines and connect the half-shafts front to back. Align the slip yoke boot, install a fresh clamp and after that, refit the propeller shaft in the car.
