2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Oil Pan on 2002 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before servicing the oil pan, remove the engine and set it up in an engine stand, being careful not to damage the oil pan gasket because it's important for the windage tray and cannot be removed with the oil pan. Now, remove the bolts on the oil pan base and take out the oil pan, before unbolting and removing the oil pump pickup tube. After that, remove the oil pan gasket/windage tray assembly from the engine. Because of the pressure from the valve, it is important to thoroughly clean the oil pan in solvent and dry it well with a clean cloth without using abrasive tools on the oil pan's gasket surface. Clean both the screen and tube with plenty of good quality solvent. Look at the oil drain plug and the plug hole for worn threads; if there are any, fix them and examine the oil pan mounting flange for bends or twists and work out any issues you find. During installation, clean both the gasket mating surface of the bedplate and the oil pan, look over the integrated oil pan gasket and replace it if it is worn out. Align the integrated oil pan gasket/windage tray assembly, insert the oil pickup tube and then place the mounting bolt and nuts, turning the nuts to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Install the oil pan and then tighten to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) in order specified. Remove the engine from the stand and mount it in your car finally.
