How to Maintain and Fix a Muffler on 2002 Dodge Ram 3500?

To fix or repair the muffler, first disconnect the negative cable of the battery and lift and reinforce the vehicle. To take the muffler out, remove the muffler from the hanger isolators, tail pipe and extension pipe, then unfasten the clamps holding it from the tail and extension pipes. Start by sliding the muffler hanger rods into the isolators and next join the muffler to the extension pipe and tail pipe. Attach the exhaust clamps with the exhaust system straight, then tighten them to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) torque. Following the removal, link up the negative battery wires, start the engine, look for holes in the exhaust system or if it touches any metal parts and always make sure there are at least 25.4 mm (1.0 inch) between the pipes and the metal body or frame parts.
