2002 Dodge Stratus A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Clutch on 2002 Dodge Stratus?
A: The first step to repairing the compressor clutch is to unhook and isolate theNegative battery cable and remove the serpentine drive belt. Take out the compressor clutch coil wire harness and remove the three bolts that hold the compressor to the vehicle. Remove the compressor from the bracket by holding its sides as you take it apart. With the help of a Spanner Wrench C-4489, fasten the clutch plate and remove the nut. Use Puller C-6461 to remove the clutch plate and then extract all the clutch shims from the compressor. With snap ring pliers, remove the front housing snap ring on the exterior, put the back lip of Rotor Puller C-6141-1 inside that groove and set Shaft Protector C-6141-2 onto the external side of the engine. Arrange the Puller Bolts such as C-6461, through the puller flange into the grips of the rotor puller and tighten them, then twist the puller center screw clockwise to remove the rotor pulley. Unscrew and take out the screw and retainer from the clutch coil wire harness at the front of the compressor, slide off the snap ring from the compressor hub and then pull off the clutch field coil. The first step is to install the clutch field coil and the snap ring, next secure the clutch coil wire retaining clip on the compressor and tighten the screw. Place the rotor assembly directly in front of the compressor housing hub and use Installer C-6871 to place the pulley bearing assembly squarely starting the nut is tightened. Bevel side of the snap ring should be facing the outside when you install it, to avoid clutch and compressor damage. Install the compressor again with all the original shims on the shaft, tighten the plate to 14.4 Nm (10.5 ft lbs.) with Driver C-6463 and place the compressor on the pulley. Place the feeler gauge into the clutch, adjust the shims as needed to meet the requirement of 0.41-0.79 mm (0.016 - 0.031 in.). If the air gap is not the same, gently lift any artefact with your fingertips or use a soft rubber baton to knock the artefact. Install the compressor on the bracket, add and snugly tighten the bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.), link the compressor clutch harness and replace the serpentine drive belt. After that, plug in the negative battery cable again, start the engine and run it at 1500-2000 rpm, with the blower on high and AC mode, while you cycle the A/C clutch about 20 times for 5 seconds at a time to seat the friction parts for the new clutch.
