2002 Dodge Stratus Steering Wheel Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Handle a Steering Wheel Installation and Removal on a 2002 Dodge Stratus?
A: The first steps are to set the tires straight ahead and to cut the remote cable connected to the battery negative. After that, take out the screws holding the speed control switch from the back of the wheel, pull out the pods and disconnect the wires. Take out the bolts holding the driver air bag and raise the air bag, getting it carefully detached from the wires and making sure no wires or metal tools are being used. Separate the horn wire from the air bag mounting bracket and undo the speed control wires from the bracket and its wire guides. Remove the bolt holding the steering wheel on just so, then loosen the steering wheel with a wheel puller before removing it. The road wheels should point forward and be centered on the steering column by using the centering indicator. Leave the turn signal stalk in the center or neutral place. Carefully steer the wires above the steering wheel armature, plug the steering wheel into place and tighten the bolt to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). While you do this, verify that the pocket in the steering wheel connects with the pin on the clock spring rotor and the block tooth in the steering wheel is with the missing tooth on the steering column shaft. Send the speed control wires under the horn and through the speed control switch slots, connect them to the switches and tighten the screws to 1.4 ± 0.3 Nm (12 ± 3 inch lbs.) torque. Confirm that the horn is connected to the steering wheel and the yellow air bag lead is attached to the Driver air bag; don't squeeze the wires as you attach them. First, screw in the air bag bolts on the left using no more than 9.6 ± 1.0 Nm (85 ± 10 inch lbs.) torque. Before inserting the battery negative remote cable again, perform the air bag System Test.
