Make sure the tires are aligned forward and then, without power, take out the negative
Battery Cable. On the back of the steering wheel, remove the screws holding the speed control switches in place, remove the pods and separate all the wires. Afterward, eliminate the pinch bolts keeping the Driver
Air Bag onto the steering wheel. Then lift the air bag up and separate all the connector wires by using only a finger. Stop the horn wire from going into the air bag bracket and then remove the wires for the speed control system from under and around the air bag mounting bracket. Ease out about half (around 15 mm) of the steering wheel retaining bolt, avoiding tightening the wheel puller bolt past five revolutions because you don't want the puller to touch the
Clock Spring. After placing your wheel straight ahead, grasp it with a wheel puller and gently pull it up. When the bolt is loose, disconnect it and remove the wheel, being sure to clip all wires into the armature. When installing, first make sure the road wheels are going straight and the Clock Spring is in the middle, using the centering indicator as a guide. The turn signal stalk must be in neutral and then guide the wires up and over the steering wheel armature; install the steering wheel and tighten the bolt at 40 ft.-lb. torque, confirming that the hole in the steering wheel hub is aligned with the drive pin on the Clock Spring rotor and the bit in the steering wheel is with the missing tooth on the steering column shaft. Send the speed control wires under the horn assembly and across the speed control switch pockets, attach them to the switches and insert the switches, tightening screws to 1.4 + 0.3 Nm (12 + 3 in. lbs.). Attach the horn lead and the yellow air bag lead to the Driver air bag and check that the wires won't be caught by anything during installation. Attach the air bag bolts, tighten the left side to the recommended 9.6 + 1.0 Nm (85 + 10 in. lbs.) torque first. Lastly, fit the battery and check that your air bag system works.
