2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Rear Cigarette Lighter Outlet on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: To access the rear cigarette lighter, you must first separate and guard the battery's negative cable. Removing the cap exposed the base of the rear cigarette lighter receptacle. Look at the base of the receptacle to see where the rectangular retaining bosses are placed within its quarter trim panel. Engage the outside snap ring pliers with the retaining bosses, squeeze tightly while rocking the base and keep squeezing as you pull to remove the base from its mount. After removing the receptacle, take the base away from the quarter trim panel so you can find the wire harness connector and sever its connection from the rear cigarette lighter receptacle. Pull the rear cigarette lighter party from the right quarter trim piece. For mounting, match the splines on the rear cigarette lighter connector outside with the grooves on the mount inner parts and push in the base piece just past halfway into the mount. Connect the wire that is specific to the body back to the main connector base in the rear cigarette lighter and slide the mount into the quarter trim panel on the right side until it is flush. Push the cover of the receptacle down until the retaining bosses are all engaged, install the protective cap into the receptacle base and reconnect the battery negative cable.
