2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Front and Rear Cigarette Lighter Outlets on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The first step to working on the front cigarette lighter is to take off and isolate the negative terminal from the battery. Taken out the center lower bezel from the instrument panel and pull the cigarette lighter knob and element or the cover out of the cigarette lighter receptacle base or you could open the cigarette lighter door in the instrument panel center lower bezel. Check where the rectangular retaining bosses located on the mount sit in relation to the receptacle base in the instrument panel center lower bezel. To use external snap ring pliers, connect the tips with the bosses, squeeze to separate them and lightly move the pliers to pull the base out of the support. Slide the cigarette lighter mount out of its place in the lower part of the instrument panel. Disconnect and isolate the negative cable from the battery and then pull the cap out of the back cigarette lighter's receptacle base. Look at where the two rectangular retaining bosses are positioned on the right trim panel. Once more, use external snap ring pliers to free the mount retaining bosses from the receptacle base before pulling the receptacle base off the right quarter trim panel to reach the wire harness connector and disconnect it. Take off the rear cigarette lighter mount from the right quarter trim panel. To put the front cigarette lighter in, set the cigarette lighter mount into the center area of the lower instrument panel bezel, make sure the two splines match up and press until the retaining bosses are secured. Firmly insert the cigarette lighter knob and element or protective cap into the housing, next reinstall the lower bezel and finally reconnect the negative battery cable. To fit the receptacle base connector to the cigarette lighter, align its splines with the matching grooves of the mount, fit the receptacle halfway in, replace the wire harness connector and insert this assembly, fitting it flush in the right quarter trim panel. Push the retaining bosses down to secure them, add the protective cap and then link the battery negative cable again.
